Experiment with gravity

August 26, 2011

Theo and I spend a lot of time in the bathroom.  And now that we have a cat, the cat does too.  What you may not know though, is that our bathroom has a laundry chute which drops down into the basement.  So Theo and I were in the bathroom with the curious cat.  I was standing at the sink and Theo was following the cat.  Then the cat jumped up on the threshold of the laundry chute and peered down when Theo suddenly nudged the cat with his foot.  The cat disappeared with the sound of frantic claws trying to get a grip.

Fire and gasoline

July 28, 2011

The GM Trailblazer’s gas gauge sensor is a problem. You might think why did I start out with this information? Well GM’s broken sensor, SpongeBob pajamas, skate inserts, and the Fire Station all go together here.
It all started when Theo and I took Terrance and Shaniqua home. Once I dropped them off (I stopped), I headed up Old Stagecoach to Theo’s Aunt Laura’s because she has a grumpy mail man who leaves her notes when her mail box is full – which state you’re mail box is full.
Earlier I had checked the mileage on our tripometer and estimated I had enough gas to make it home (that’s how we have to do it because the GM gas sensor in the gas tank doesn’t WORK!) Then I turned right on Vandora Springs and made the dangerous curve when suddenly my car turned off. I grabbed the wheel with both hands, checked my mileage and thought I had at least fifty more miles, and then coasted down the hill. I remembered that the Garner Fire Department is located right up the road (up!). So I coasted down the hill and started up the hill and then pulled over just past a deep ditch.
So there I was with Theo, without gas, and two houses from the Fire Station. Theo had his new skate inserts on his feet, his SpongeBob pajamas and a T-shirt. So we walked up to the Station and through it and around it, then I found the office. It must have been the kitchen too, because it smelled really good. That’s where Theo and I met an older fella who was matter of fact, just like it happens all the time. He showed me the gas can and handed me the funnel and off we went. I had the gas can, Theo had the funnel and we were holding hands all the way to the Trailblazer (with the sensor that doesn’t WORK!).
I put Theo back in the vehicle and discovered the funnel wasn’t long enough and the car was tilted the wrong way. So I manage to get about a gallon in the tank and a cup on me then tried to start it up. But the car wouldn’t turn over because it was tilted the wrong way. So I readjusted the car and poured more gas in when suddenly the car began to slide backwards and I scooted with it to avoid a major Hazmat spill. The slide stopped right before the deepening ditch and I hopped in, started the car, put it in 4-wheel and resumed our trip – with the windows down.
After I refilled the tank and returned it to Garner’s finest, Theo and I drove to his Aunt Laura’s smelling of gasoline. It wasn’t morning, but it did remind me of victory. I retrieved her mail and we went in to wash up. Theo and I have a crazy life.

Chic-fil-A routine

July 18, 2011

I have a fine collection of Chic-fil-A receipts in my truck’s glove compartment.  When I take Theo to Chic-fil-A he has a routine.  For the longest time he would not respond to Tomeka and Claudia when they greeted him.  Recently though Theo smiled at Claudia so we have made progress there and Claudia was very excited about the advancement in their relationship.  Once the food comes, I hand the drink to Theo, Theo places it in the drink holder.  Then I hand the bag to Theo and he holds it.  Then I receive the receipt and place it on the floor in between us.  Theo picks it up and puts it in the glove box.  After we start driving away, Theo starts tearing the paper off the straw, one little piece at a time, then he hands me the straw so I can finish tearing the paper off.  Then I stick the straw into the drink and we drive home where we go through the arriving-home routine.  I need to clean my truck.

Run faster; jump higher

June 19, 2011

A couple of days ago I took Alex and Theo to Walmart to get some things for Alex’s trip to the College World Series.  At the last minute Alex suggested we buy shoes for Theo.  So we walked back to the shoe department and down the boy’s isle.  Theo got excited, and then grabbed a pair of shoes.  I grabbed the shoes that were on sale and Theo sat down as we moved to try them on.  Theo makes a noise and moves his head in a way that shows his excitement.  We were able to switch to the discounted shoes and they fit perfectly.  But when we tried to put Theo’s old shoes back on he was not happy.  So there we were in the shoe department sitting on the floor struggling to put Theo’s shoes on.  He is getting bigger and stronger.  Finally Alex hands Theo his new shoes to hold and he allows us to put on his old shoes.  Theo holds his new shoes in front of his face like an offering.  When we check out he eagerly holds his shoes for the checker.  At first she doesn’t take the shoes so Theo changes positions.  She takes them.  When we arrive home Theo wants his shoes on immediately.  We put them on and he runs outside to the swing.  Nothing like a new pair of shoes to make you run faster and jump higher.

Lap counter

June 15, 2011

Theo and I have been going to South Park here in Fuquay on a regular basis. I’m trying to get him to walk the track there. A couple of days ago he started following me into the pavilion, so I eased toward the track and Theo followed. Soon we were walking, skipping, and running around the track at a harrowing pace. As we approached the half way mark, I was concerned that Theo would get tired and conduct a sit down protest. But he didn’t seem to notice and we cruised along until we completed the lap and Theo seamlessly headed for the truck in the parking lot. I guess one lap was enough.

In the hood

June 9, 2011

The last few days Theo has been on a hoody (I just checked the spelling of hoodie) kick. He found his blue hoodie and wears it constantly. Yesterday when we went to the park and I had to forcibly remove it. When we arrived home he put it back on immediately.
I just cooked Theo breakfast and he ate while wearing his ubiquitous hoodie. Then I took him potty which is where I change his pajamas to day clothes. He made sure his hoodie was safely away from the other clothes which I throw down the laundry shoot to the basement. But I thought maybe I can get away with it. So I grabbed his ubiqu-hoodie and tossed it while he was indisposed. His eyebrows frowned as he carefully watched. After all the bathroom morning routines were over, Theo ran out of the room, to the stairs, where he turned to look at me and I looked at him and in that moment we both knew — hoodie-rescue. I’m about to go into the livingroom to check. One-hundred to one?

Splish splash . . .

June 9, 2011

A couple of days ago Holly and I were sitting in our office and I kept hearing the water in the hallway bathroom turn on and off. I just figured it was one of the kids. Then I walked by the bathroom and noticed the light was not turned on, but the second door to the bathtub area was mostly closed. That peaked my interest so I knocked on the door and pushed it open to see Theo turning the tub faucet on and off with the kitty in the front of the tub. The kitty didn’t seem to mind it. Theo enjoyed it. I told Theo the bath was over and dried off the kitty.

A walk in the park

June 8, 2011

Today I decided to try and combine Theo and my walking. I took the little man to South Park in Fuquay which has a nice playground and track. Theo is familiar with the playground and sprinted to the slide. I stood around evaluating whether I could walk the track and still keep an eye on him while the ladies meeting continued under the pavilion. Finally I decided that I could not walk the track while Theo played. But eventually he came over to the shade in the pavilion and followed me around the tables. So I left the pavilion and walked to the track. Theo followed. He hung out under the bleachers a little while and then began to follow me on the track. Break through. However half way around the track at the farthest place from my truck, Theo got tired. He threw a little fit and then walked up to me. I took a step or two and he showed his irritation. I took a step, Theo protested. So I picked him up and carried his eighty-five pounds the rest of the way. By this time a guy from the Section 8 housing caught up with us and we walked together until I reached my truck. We chatted a little but all I could understand was the word ‘hot.’ That it was.

Tour

April 26, 2011

Day . . . oh, I forget what day it is.  We did take a tour of Hand of Hope though.  It was kind of a self guided tour.  Theo seems to be afraid of the room where his mother’s desk is located.  But he scampered up the stairs twice.  Hopefully we have some good video on it.  Now how to get it on the web.

Hair razed

April 24, 2011

Yesterday was Day 4.  The haircut is complete.  Now we can celebrate the resurrection of our Lord.
