Clouds in my coffee
March 3, 2010
Theo got up and to the front window this morning before I could get to him. I found him staring out the window at the four inches of snow. He then turns to go downstairs in the laundry room where he locks the door after entering. I see him a little later in his red boots and hoodie headed out the front door. So he is in his spongebob pajamas and winter red boots and hoodie. He walks out front and tries the wagon which has frozen snow on the handle. Gives up on that and walks to the back where he stands in a puddle. Then he checks out his swing set which is covered with wet snow. He walks back up front and reenters the house. I pour his coffee which is about a fourth of a coffee cup. He then opens the refrigerator to get Alex’s vanilla creamer, but it is gone. So I give him Holly’s half n half and make sure he pours just a little. Well he didn’t like that so he gets it back out and fills the coffee cup. Then we sit down together at the table and I tried to read Alter’s translation of Psalm 32 while Theo beats incessantly on his cup with my pen. I chat with Holly who has driven to Rocky Mount before most people are out in the snow. Then I resume reading and Theo moves his elbow just right, tipping over the whole cup of coffee. The book was saved.
Clouds in my coffee

Theo has, for some time now, shared a cup of coffee with me in the morning. We sit at the table and sip while I read Alter’s translation of the Psalms; or something. But lately he has started putting cream in his coffee – yikes. I have to watch him with the coffee and he puts in about a forth of a cup, but the first time he poured the cream in, it was all the way to the top – so kind of a Breve. Pouring is quite an achievement. Last night he got his own juice cup, filled it, and then snapped on the lid. First time he has been able to snap the lid on.
This morning he poured his coffee, promptly got the cream, while I watched and said “That’s enough” and then he took Holly’s new coffee mug downstairs to the concrete basement. Just another day in paradise. Ah, I hear the Ralph Vaughn Williams singers – Mysterium.
